Reunited Again

After a gap of over 3 months Blind school starts again
I left the kids in March last week due to their exams
I skip April & May due to my own exam
June due to kids vacations
Class is less than  half as many are still on vacations
But they still remember me
Parmeet still remember the whole story of two rats
Devi is still very shy
Aman is still very naughty & fights with Vipin is still on
Hope Almighty give me Power to Impress & make Happy Everyone in this World

Helping a Blind in the Exam

Helping a blind kid in the exam is such a great feel

But at what cost?

Tej asked me to come with him & helping him in appearing the Bank Clerk Examination (on Sunday i.e. today)

I was excited for that. I was eager to help him in the exams but just in reading the question paper or ticking the answer

But the pious feeling did not last long.

Because for that i have to produce false identity, fake documents; as i am over qualified for the job

I try to console him that its wrong but still i said Yes may be due to emotions

I do not know the exact qualification required. But now he is taking his cousin who is in VIII standard to help him

Finally at the last moment yesterday (Saturday) the plan was cancelled 

I am more than happy

Tez Hurts Himself Again

Well my friend Tej met with an accident
As not able to see at night
While crossing road in a busy street a Mo Bike hits him hard
And i met him yesterday although it was not recommended as its was totally on my study cost
But thank fully he is not injured much
I advice him to wear jacket for Blinds at night time
It was strange that he even dont know about that
Thats the main problem even the blind people dont know about the products available in market for them
After i got free from exams i will surely go with him & search for the Jacket

Please Jesus free me soon form this exams & help me clearing it
I want to be Chartered Accountant so that able to do more for the kids

Music Class by Tej - Help Him

Hi thats Tej
He is a doing his Graduation in Music
& also teaches music to Blind Kids
He is too visually impaired & cant able to see at night. But can see at day time
He met with an accident when he is just 12
He is very futuristic about opening his own Music School in New Delhi

Volunteering in Blind School

The exams of kids of Blind school are going on.

They started on March 14 and be over on March 22.

And i am on leave these days due to their exams. Thats why dont have much to write

But a very funny incident did happen last time.

Actually I am just telling the kids that Human Body has 206 bones.

Then one elder kid "Junaid" replies Sir Ji but a new born  has more than 300. I reply in Yes.

After that "Aman" too replies Sir Ji it means i have somewhere in between 206 and 300.

Well what can i say at that time. I say no you have 206.

Then he again replies Sir Ji and what about Gopi - Did he too has 206?

Actually "Gopi" is youngest in the class and may be around 3 yrs old and i am a commerce student.

I just remain silent and want to change the topic.

But "Junaid" replies I know he has more than 300.

Well the whole class start doing woooooooo he has 300 bones. Dont ever fight with him.

Somehow i manage to control my laugh at that time.

I really cant forget this incident in my whole life.

Thank you Shefali and Jesus for giving me an opportunity to stay with such a kids.

Wishing Lots of Luck To Kids

Overcoming Weakness

Today i spent my evening with a very nice guy Tej Pal (on left the only person in the pic who is smiling)

He is a teacher in Blind School
And visually impaired
He cant see at night or dark
And in examination center he needs a Helper so as to write the answers
But Just look at his Smile and the glow on his face
You cant even judge that 10 years ago he is normal and can see like us
But due to an unfortunate accident he lost sight but due to 2 or 3 eye operation he can see but still not enough
I met him outside the blind school
He needs lift and i politely (without knowing he is visually impaired or he is actually from blind school) allow him to park his butts on my mobike
From that day we got a nice understanding
He offers me Music classes (of course which i am looking for after my exams)
And we too planning to go to his hometown on a hill station
I really got charged and our talks are very nice about the Future of Blind Kids & about Hills
I am looking ahead for some nice plans for Blind Kids
I am intentionaly not disclosing them till i not able to know its feasible or not
And truly looking for many good evenings with him

Volunteering in Blind School

I am intentionally not writing the post on blind school. Usually i wrote when i face some & then i apply some & when it get solved. I conclude it & write here.But these days ................

Kids are really testing me well. Its a combination of things that working against me:-

• My own exams are just 2 months away
• Health is not good
• Kids strength got doubled in the class
• And two kids Ajit & Abhijeet was so naughty that they are expelled twice in the past due to bad behavior.And they dont understand Hindi much They can see well but i suppose their parents are blind. I really dont know how to handle them
• Teachers are pressurizing me to get strict in the class (indirectly slapping kids), which i not able to do that.

I NEED A LEAVE PLEASE

Volunteering in Blind School

This week in blind school was full of absenteeism. I not able to give them much time. Sorry Kids.

But the day i attended was full of experiences.

• I slap a Kid. Well i strictly hate slapping. But Junaid make me loose my patience as he hit a younger kid half of his age and make him cry. And i want to return to him the pain of same level. That day i really feel bad but next day i feel a change not in Junaid as expected but in the small kids they become very friendly with me and these elder ones become a revenger. I am just keeping an eye on future. I really want to give Junaid a lesson but without swanking but how?
• Why we need Gundas in class? Like Kiraye ke gunde works in elections for booth capturing etc. On similar grounds in a class room teachers intentionally give authority to Big tall Kids, so as to mind others but most of the time it was misused for their own. Kids are not responsible in fact teachers are responsible. They should correct that.

Teaching is full of experiences as you become a good student after becoming a teacher. At least i start doing my Homework on time.

Volunteering in Blind School

The day with kids are going fine. I am exploring myself with them with every passing day.
Working as an volunteer is really good as you have total freedom to decide what to taught.
Thats the best part of my day with kids. I feel unfortunate that i cannot give them full day.
Class I also joins in few times in past week and they too feel good with me. And they request to teach them too. I suppose they love stories very much.

Well i am not praising myself. But now the nursery class is more intelligent than I std. They knows more words.

Question Session - Kids are now moving on the right track. They start questioning without any fear or shy. Even Devi. And Parmeet he is so fluent once he ask "sir ji chalak ka matlab bura hota ha ya acha". I am wicked what to answer because in the story it was used as good.Even Vijay " sir ji samjhane ko kya kahate ha, shimla mirch ko kya kahte ha."

English Learning - Teaching general English is funny actually. As

• Thappar ko Slap
• Mukke ko Punch
• Ladai ko fight

Its interesting to form such pairs and enjoy in the class.

See off to Ramchandra - Ramchandra expelled from school. He has a bad habbit of littering in his trousers . It may be one of the reason. I really do not want to get in much detail But its really my luck and Jesus gift that i have a short video of him so that i can remember him. God Bless.

Date With Blind Kids

My day starts with them. Every day is multiplying in Geometric Progression in terms of happiness with them.

Champak Van

Remember the comic book "Champak". I start with it today. Kids like it but it is very difficult for me to make them understand animated characters:-

• Chiku Khargosh "Chiku Rabbit". They understand the rabbit but who is chiku. 
• Hathi Dada " Sir Ji Is Hathi Dada Ji? and then 
• Ashok Van "Ashok Forest". The kids know someone namely Ashok. So they start yelling "Sir ji Ashok to yahi ha". 

Its creates a scene in the class.

English Chains

I try to build chains just interlinking various things together. 

Khargosh to Rabbit to Gajar to Carrot to Lal to Red

So 3 words in a single line.

Quiz Game

The kids who are regular in the class can now beat anyone. From parts of the body to animal name to general words The kids who are not regular is really feeling very inferior in the class. So now i try to loosen the rules of games for gaining equality and make the kids comfortable.

Favorite Student Back

Gopi back in the class. Its really feel good to see him back. I suppose within a week he will on the level of other kids.

Hand Wash  After Mutra Visarjan. Why?

I ask Gopi Do you wash your hands after toilet? He innocently says No Sir Ji Kuch Laga Hi Nahi Ha.

So i just ask him to do it next time. Actually he is back after nearly a month so feeling hard to memorise where is the door. It really feels bad to see him moving in wrong direction.

Jokes In The Class

First time i try for it. And Kids like it very much. The "Gappi Joke". Eh Gappi Khata mere Goa mein.........
But most of the jokes gone above their head and most imporatant thing i am feeling hard to stop my laughter while telling Jokes.Bad Very Bad.

Emotional Day In Blind School

I really dont know what to say at this.

There was a very naughty student in the class Vijay who yells in class, make comment & teases name etc.

And totally disturb the momentum of whole class

But today he is Silent

He came in the class after 15 days and just sit in a corner with no moments nothing. Just like a vegetable

You know why

because now he is deaf now. HE CANT HEAR

Why God? Why a small kid who cant see & now cant even hear.
I am very angry with you Jesus.

Take the eyes of N D Tiwari and take the ears of Dawood Ibrahim. But why Vijay?

Quiz Game on Full Swing

The quiz competitions is started to gain the attention of the kids is really getting interesting day by day.

Actually we are moving forward from Parts of the Body to Animal Name to Birds Name to Eatables to Colours Name to General English. Its all about moving furthur each day. Its actually a healthy competition and hope kids learn too alot.

Meeting with Ravi Sir

Got a chance to interact with Mr. Ravi a teacher in Blind School who is blind too. He is from Mussorie (Hill Station). I really love that place.But the one thing truly shakes me when i tell him i am a CA (final) student.  My presence rewind his past memories of student life when he had eyes

 "Aap To Aankh Wale Ho Aap To Kar Hi Loge (CA exams clear)". Then he starts describing how much he enjoy when he had eyes. 

How he plays football? 

How he study?

How he ride bike? 

He is so comfortable with these i mean not emotional which you may assume. He is a true man. And i really cant get courage to ask how he lost his eyes? May be i will ask some other day.

Regrets

My favourite student Gopi is still missing. I really want to meet again but really cant get that chance.Actually God is trying to give me lesson how to stay happy in present and take care of those persons who are in front of you now.

Fun With Kids

Happy Day Again As Expected With Kids

I do not want to write a blog now. But somehow a thought make my fingers play with keyboard now.
A call from my friend some weeks ago & really disturb me alot. I just say him that i am looking for some story books for the kids. But he talk so rudely that first you concentrate on your career.
We have eyes, ears, nose, hands, legs and hopefully they are working well.
But there is a segment of society who really needs special attention.
Dont you think so? Well i think the same.
So it really hurts me at that time when people become selfish in regard of their self & family. Forget it i am not writing it to open eyes of society. I spend time with kids because i like it.

Poetry Class
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on full swing. I just started hopefully kids will get it by the end of this week. Its really hard to give them Hindi meaning to it because it is without rhythm so i have to tell them as a story. Not easy to create a story on poems on the spot.

Parts of the Body - Game
I today added name of fingers to the game. Now i suppose we covering every part of the body in class. So it now starting boring the kids. I have to develop to more additions lets see.

Demand of Stories on Rise
Stories telling normally two stories a day. Stories of forest attract the kids most. But as Junaid and Yash is more than 10 years they demand bit intellectual one. But i usually try to balance among the stories.
I am confused whether i should ask questions on stories or not. Well the response of kids will tell the rest.

New Admission
Paramjeet join today. So on our class now a Hindu, Muslim & Sikh. Its awesome.

Kids got Angry
Actually i really do not want to do it. But kids really feel ditched. I promise them that we will play Stand up and Sit down. But the bell rings before the time i expected. So we cant able to play today. So they got bit angry especially Sonu "Sir ji maine apko kaha tha bell bajne wali ha".
Sorry Class.

Missing Gopi
The best and quietest student of the class is on leave these days. I am missing you.

Volunteering Start Again

After a gap of so many days so it finally starts again. I am in School again. Most of the kids are off due to christmas but few are present. Here is the list of present students:-

They all live in the hostel. So all the Delhihites are missing. As i promise i will arrange pics of kids. So i stay on words & somehow make a video on Ramchandra reciting BAA BAA BLACK SHIP. He is 7 years old & a Bihari.Actually like most of the kids he belong too a very poor family. His father died. Today Aman make fun of Ramchandra that "Sir ji isne he maara ha apne papa ko".

I know he did  not understand the meaning of this. But i really love to see him more matured.

Vipin complains that Ramchandra urinates in his trousers. I really dont know what to say at that time except stopping the class from laughing at the Ramchandra and advicing Ram to its a bad habbit.

Damn System

I arrange a small video but this system is not allowing me to share it on web. So i have to be more patient and will upload it later.

Confusion of Being Futuristic Or Not For The Kids

I really today think about the Junaid alot. He is 12 years old and in Nursery class. So just thinking at what age will he be able to complete his schooling may be at 25 or more. He is actually a smart kids as per Nursery standard. But he is should be in higher classes by now and i think he deserves it.

Devi - A Miracle Kid

Devi surprise me a lot today. He actually remembers poem. And he recites the English Poem. Ya angrazi one. Devi is a very very shy girl. And belongs to Bihar. She remembers 6 lines out of 8 after 10 days. Its her achievement. She actively takes part in the game of body parts too. My impression totally changes about her.

Looking for Contents

Its hard for me to get topics for 2 hour daily. So temporarily i am managing with story telling which i do half an hour. Really looking for much broader scale. More poems & more things.

English

In this world English & Computers is enough to give anyone sleep less nights especially to those who are totally unfamiliar with it. I try my best but really dont know how i can teach them English as a language not as a Subject.

Missing Kids

I really missing the kids alot. Its about a week i spend time with them. Last time it was Dec 9.

• Dec 10 Due to Accident
• Dec 11 Taking Care of Father
• Dec 12 Saturday
• Dec 13 Sunday
• Dec 14 - 22 Exams of Kids

I have to really wait till Dec 23. But i am not going to waste this time. I am looking for more interesting way to teach the kids.

Day with Kids

The day with kids is really good. I got  I got a mouth ulcer so feeling hard to talk loud. But the kids really they don’t have any mercy for you. As like a true enemy they will take advantage of every weakness of you. I can totally understand their feeling. But I am enjoying it. AsBut they are not that much naughty which I am in my class.

I am worried for few things

• ·    I join the blind school for spending time & fun with the kids and educate them is the road or path towards it. So the most important thing is making study a fun which is not easy at all. It needs time. I have to do home work too. Time is my limitation as I have to do my study too. Struggle is still on.
• ·   Feeling presurize by the other teachers for yelling at the kids which is totally not my nature. Its my intutiton the kids are used to get slaps from other teachers too. As some naughty kids were locked too in store room as told by the Kids. So I am now trying to make kids emotional instead of yelling. Like no games or no stories if pin drop silence not maintained. Hope it will work.
• ·    I feel there is too much strictness in the class sometimes. I actually want them to make noise. But really cannot able to give them freedom. As we have to maintain the decorum.

Story Telling

• ·    Today I tried first time story telling. Great experience about the 80% of class is listening to me. Its really good.
• ·    Technical detail – oh my god the minds of kids is too sharp. “Hathi Daldal Mein Kaise Gir Sakta Ha” - How can an elephant be trapped in the Muddy well?  This question never comes in my mind. Atleast it shows the kids are interested in the story. I have to convince them about the baby elephant & a class room size muddy well. 

Teaching Manners

• ·    Its really tough one to handle sometimes. As I told them when you sneeze or cough you should cover your mouth eith hanki & say sorry. So now the whole class start coughing & saying sorry. Its totally unexpected. Sometimes it becomes embarassing as well.

Hindi to English

• ·    Usually I try to convert everything in hindi to english like what they eat at home or if they fight they mukka-punch etc. But what you call to Chunti Marna. Their must be some word for it but at that I really have to say No.

Fear of Getting Over Emotional

• I never deal with kids ya I play with some but for short time. So really feel hard to treat crying kids. Actually a boy Ramchandra lost his Kalam. Actually its not ordinary one its like a needle used to make a hole in the paper. I feel confused whether to show emotions or not. I think I still have to learn a lot.

Dada of Class

• My class students varies with age someone even double the age of others too. And some can see too. So they dominate in the class too. I really have to become strict sometimes. But really don’t know how to maintain a balance.

Well whatever I really have to go a long way.

Want to thanks the kids for being patient with me or bearing me.Thanks a lot kids for giving me a Hero kinda welcome & a see off too. I will try my best to make you Learn with Fun.

Day with Kids

I have done about a week in the blind school. I am enjoying and struggling to have uniformity attention and knowledge for all kids. As some are really good but few very slow learners. Many kids belong to lower income group family and some may be first generation students. Teaching them English is a b
ig deal.
Got the Answers:
• Why teachers say No to “toilet & drinking water” even when a student says “Bahut Zor Ki Lagi Ha Sir Ji”.
• Why cleanliness is giving importance. Because it is really very hard to teach stinky kids. But I really don’t want to compromise my quality with the foul smell. So you have to bear this.
• Why teachers come late. It’s difficult to sit in an empty class. I still feel hard to reach at 0800 hrs but somehow manage to reach till 0810. But it does not bother me. As my commitment for 2 hrs got fulfill as I close at 1010 hrs but still love to be punctual.
• Why teachers got irritated soon as its tough to speak continuously for 2 hrs.
• Why teachers insist to keep quiet every time. As only one student comment is enough to make whole class react on it. It’s hard to get momentum soon after a joke. Aman & Vijay are most naughty. They have a great sense of humor too. I often laugh on their comments as they are really very spontaneous like Ramchandra to Ramu & the damn poem Aada Pada.
Difficulties
• I still feel hard to make a girl student Devi overcome her shy & talk loud.
• It’s really hard to teach blind kids about colors. I feel very emotional too.
• It’s really hard to teach orphan kids about family.
Fun with Gopi is always good. Love to take his pictures & post on blog someday.
Well I personally think it’s really a long journey ahead.
I see the dream last night that I carry laptop to the class for a movie Hanuman to make kids hear about Sankat Mochan.

Day with Kids

I go through a vast experience in just a couple of days with kids and really have to recall and adapt too. Here are some

Getting used to school holidays

• Like last working day leave & others khama khah leaves. Yes now it seems funny but at that time they are your prior requirements.

Stick to the Syllabus

• If you are teaching them parts of the body in English. Then don’t get carried away with details like how many teeth’s and bones in human body. Really it makes no sense in Nursery class.

Permissions

• I strictly not used to getting respects. Even my nephew just 6 yr old called me by my nick name Honey and not Mama Ji or other uncle type prefixes. So I (Sir Ji) getting used to say Yes or No to the requests of going to toilet, drinking water etc. Please do not apply the same principal of one student at a time to blind kids. So I generally allow them.

Justice Himanshu

• Sir Ji ye mera naam chida raha ha "Gopi ko topi bol raha ha". I still do not know how to solve such fights.

Instruct from Top

• Actually we had a class room but not benches so kids sit on carpet. Of course there is chair for me but I love to sit with kids on carpet. But when you want to give instruction try either to stand up or sit on chair. As the kids are blind so the voice I think coming from top makes a distinguished dictatorship mark which you need sometimes in uncontrolled atmosphere.

All these are great & makes your day a great start.

Blind School 1st Day

Day 1

The first day in the school not as a student but as a volunteer. I reached at sharp 8:00 a.m. I am really excited about the teaching & nervous too about how to handle kids.

I have to wait for few minutes in the office but after that I saw some blind kids. I suppose its first time in reality. Actually saw some but aged on roads as pedestrians or as beggars or teenagers studying in the College.

The day was expected to be full of surprises and it is so. Really feel weird that how these small kids managing their route to one class from another. And no one except few actually carries their white sticks.  Either they are familiar with the place or very small actually to carry the sticks. But the former looks more digesting. Most of the teachers teaching blinds are blind too.

My role is to start their day. I am supposed to talk to them about general environment and play with them for 3 periods equals 2 hrs from 0800 am to 1000am.

Hesitation and Shyness

Of course the whole credit goes to the kids for removing my hesitation and making me comfortable among them. There are approx 12-15 students, only 3 are girls. We start with the introduction then nursery rhymes, body parts and fruit names. Eldest one is Junaid & youngest one Gopi.  

I Forget that they are Blind

·         Often we see blind adults in neighborhood walking down streets silently with straight and careful face

·         But small kids not like these and why they should be so. They simply

§  running around & falling

§  kicking & fighting

§  pulling each one legs, clothes etc.

§  teasing & making fun of each others name like vipin – pipin, as this is my favorite game too.

§  Commenting on me too which I really enjoy as commenting on teacher is every student right

All these made me actually forget that they can’t see.

My Mistakes

·         Patriotic Kids

If you ever teach small kids never ask them to sing a National Anthem. I just ask one but in a second the whole class stands up and goes on Jan Gana Man. This is not a music class and I am supposed to make them quiet. Somehow I manage but the teachers from other class have to come. Well they were blind too. But more strict than me.

Talent in Classroom

Komal knows so much rhymes that I even can’t count.

Quietness in the Classroom

Gopi just a 2 ft boy and no eyes. He has such a white round face and such a good learner that I even I feel illiterate in front of him by seeing his progress. He knows all the body parts and feels so excited when I used to stand him for that. I love you Gopi you are going to be either Gopi (Krishna) or Gopichand (Badminton star).

Prayer

God if possible I love to give on rent my eyes to the kids. I really don’t know about anyone medical condition is it curable or not. But really when I got bullions I love to try for these. Please God give me enough for that.

Excellent Day

Thank you God Ji
